New Forest CC race organiser Jim Pascoe of New Milton, is a happy man after his postman was kept busy delivering entries for this Sunday's annual time trial round the southern half of the New Forest.

"We've got a record entry with several previous winners and Harry Lodge is riding too," he said before despatching 70 programmes to those who will begin to line up at the start of this 32 mile time trial in New Milton at 7.00am.

Lodge is the former British Junior Best all-Rounder champion who has spent the past ten years racing as a professional in Italy, and former winners include Simon Brooks (VC St Raphael Waite Contracts) who succeeded clubmate, Malcolm Cox, when he won in 1h 18m 35s last year, Glenn Longland (Antelope RS Holdings R.T) and fellow veteran, Mike Marchant (Roger Regis CC).

Brooks and Cox will be joined by Neil Coleman, Aran Stanton and Steve Walkling, anyone of whom have the form to take the individual honours and the fastest of this three look certain to win the team award.

The Bank Holiday racing begins with Hampshire R.C organising a 10-mile race for 115 time trialists at Fontwell, West Sussex, tomorrow (Saturday) morning. Four of the five St Raphael entrants are seeded in the starting order to confirm their speed potential but there are some equally quick men in Sussex who, in the absence of last year's winner, Peter Tadros, could keep the honours in their county, while the hopes of Peter Younghusband (Tri.UK) cannot be discounted.

RC Omega holds a track meeting under the auspices of the British Schools CA at Portsmouth on Sunday morning and Vectis Off-Shore Sports CC stages 9, 24 and 45-mile time trials on each day of the holiday weekend, based at Godshill in the Isle of Wight.

Past winners, Ray Hughes (Clarence Wheelers) and Graeme Stirzaker (Anglia Sport Condor) renew their rivalry in this series of races, but it is the 100-kilometre Randonnee round the Island on Sunday which is the big attraction for most cycling visitors.

Well over a thousand are expected to ride again, with this year's clockwise course offering starting points close to ferry terminals at East Cowes, Fishbourne and Yarmouth for mainland entrants.
