AuDeo 2, Kingsclere Sunday 1
ADIE Green's second goal of the afternoon, five minutes from time, ensured AuDeo retained the Kelvin Cup at the Camrose Ground on Sunday.
It was a deserved victory for John Bloomfield's side, who are pulling out of the Basingstoke Sunday League next season, and a second cup final defeat for Kingsclere on successive Sundays.
AuDeo had much the better of the first half, with Paul Worsfold prominent in midfield and some useful raids down the left from Peter Pike. In the 10th minute, Darren Buttle crossed for Clive Augustus but 'keeper Paul Marchant was out well to block his shot for a corner.
Pike forced Marchant to punch out a goal-bound shot and Worsfold's headed rebound brought another good save from the Kingsclere stopper.
Paul Clarkson headed wide a chance for Kingsclere in the 26th minute from a Tyrone Aldridge centre but it was AuDeo who were dictating the game and Marchant saved them again when a shot from Worsfold took a deflection.
Brian McGregor was the next AuDeo man to miss an easy chance and the brave Marchant rushed out to dive at the feet of Augustus in the 37th minute, the Audeo striker escaping a booking although Worsfold did not after intervening.
Nigel Chambers saw his 25-yard shot whistle just over Warren Hopkins' crossbar in the 42nd minute. Three minutes later, AuDeo took the lead when Green's near-post scrambled effort went in off the head of Marchant.
Kingsclere began to get a few chances after the break, with Stephen Aldridge forcing a good save from Warren Hopkins. In the 70th minute they managed to equalise.
Again it was a scrappy goal, with Clarkson scoring while on the deck in the six-yard box.
In the 63rd minute, Green, put through by sub Tony Long, outpaced the defence but could not beat Marchant in a one-on-one.
Some 22 minutes later, Green took an easy pass from Worsfold and, although there were strong claims for offside, he then went on to round Marchant and score the winner.
Mick Davis, the Sunday league chairman, made the presentation and the man-of-the-match award to Audeo's Billy Creese.
