DYNAMITE Bait-sponsored angler Simon Hambridge continued his amazing run of results - easily winning the first round of the Cormorants Marshall Rolfe team Toyota Clubman Challenge on Longbridge Lake.
In doing so, he booked his place in the final on Longbridge on September 28 with a huge 129-10-0 of carp drawn on peg 28.
Hambridge caught steadily from the start on the waggler, band and pellet up in the water to include carp to 11-0-0 in his haul.
He had already qualified for the other big September final on Longbridge when he won the Nigel Turner/Thomsons Financial Planning Sunday Series last month on Mike Smith's Hordle lakes.
With so few anglers coming through from the junior ranks to the match circuit where the average age locally is 45. Hambridge is one of the rare few who has stuck at his fishing throughout his teens and looks set to give his elders a hard time for many years to come. Poingdestre's Steve Pomery, drew peg five on the ditch which has had good form recently and took a huge 108-8-0 of carp to 9-0-0 to the scales to finish second, fishing pole and banded pellet.
Rick Tyson fished a method feeder to the island from peg 30 and weighed in 86-4-0 of carp for third, despite losing four fish out of his keep-net that would have given him second spot.
Speed Andrews took a fabulous mixed bag of mainly skimmers and tench on the pole and pellet over worm from peg 14 to finish 4th with 79-3-0 with Terry Sargent from peg one, with Chalkie White sixth with 58-4-0, with another of his incredible pole captures of big carp, this time including a brace of 20-1-0 and 17-4-0 from peg 21a.
Poingdestre's skipper Clive Egerton finished seventh with 57-2-0.
Stoneham's Midweek Open went to another angler on a roll, Poingdestre's Dave Pool. He followed up his Witherington Farm victory with a clear cut victory on the Bottom Lake with a massive 43-5-0 of tench, skimmers and the odd cruscian taken on the waggler and pellet over pellet from peg 21 in the middle of the lake.
Eastleigh's Paul Gregory finished a remote second with a carp and five tench for 22-1-0 from peg 31 on the pole and corn with Hansford's Chalkie White third with carp and tench for 20-4-0 on the pole from the dam wall.
Dave Self (Eastleigh) was fourth with 13-7-0 and Poingdestre's Steve Pomery fifth with 13-4-0.
