HAMPSHIRE coach Jimmy Cook (pictured) believes his side can follow up their last Benson and Hedges win against Surrey by taking two more points from The Oval.
Two years ago, heavy rain reduced a group match at Surrey to ten overs a side at the beginning of Cook's first season with Hampshire.
Captain Robin Smith duly led his side to victory by two runs to clinch a place in the quarter-finals, with Derek Kenway scoring a rapid 47.
Now Cook wants his side to put the defeat at Kent behind them by avenging last year's 23-run defeat at The Rose Bowl and beating the defending champions on their home ground.
He said: "It's going to be difficult as Surrey have a useful side. Most of their players are internationals but our record against them hasn't been too bad.
"We've run them close over the last couple of years, so we can go there with confidence. We were a bit disappointed to lose the game against Kent after dominating for quite a long period, but this is a chance to regain the batting confidence that we had at Canterbury.
"We had a good wicket there but we have struggled a bit since coming back to The Rose Bowl.
"The wicket at The Oval is usually very good and, hopefully, this will give the batsmen the chance to get some runs under their belts."
Hampshire are staying on the road until after the penultimate game at Essex on Sunday, when they return for what could be a vital clash against Middlesex at The Rose Bowl on Monday.
