Julian Bates' Prima 38 "Born Slippy 2" lived up to her name on Sunday when she won the IRC1 class by nearly five minutes on handicap.
The wind became very fickle, shifty and light after two classes had got away and the start area was left in a calm patch. sailing in a narrow corridor of breeze "Born Slippy 2" with designer Jonty Sherwill helming managed to edge ahead of the fleet in company with two other boats.
They then had to dodge a dense gaggle of 150 boats who were still waiting to start after a postponement. The race was shortened at the penultimate mark leaving "Born Slippy 2" top Prima in the series.
For Chief Race Officer David Greenway life was made more difficult by low water restricting the sailing area and another fleet running short races on the Island shore. Eventually, however, the wind returned.
The start sequence was compressed and by judicious use of laid marks, bunching was avoided so everyone enjoyed a good race. Meanwhile White Group were again learning the meaning of both the black flag and round the ends rules.
The series hots up for the final meeting on Sunday April 28th.
