TRADITIONAL Irish music doesn't often cross over into the mainstream, but the Saw Doctors have managed to achieve broad appeal while sticking close to their roots.
Renowned for their rousing live performances, the band hail from the small Galway town of Tuam. Their British chart hits, which typify their cross-bred style of traditional Irish and out-and-out rock'n'roll, include Small Bit of Love, World of Good, To Win Just Once and Simple Things.
In the last year, they have expanded to become a 12-piece band, recruiting Padraig Stevens, Anthony Thistlethwaite and Danny Healy.
Oh, and if you're wondering about their name, saw doctors are what wandering Irish saw-sharpeners used to call themselves. AW
