FANS of Cold Feet will love the latest Salisbury Playhouse offering - a modern sex comedy about a 30-something couple's difficulties in having a child.
Matthew (Mark Arden, otherwise known as Vaseline from London's Burning) and Linda (Candida Gubbins) have got everything they want in life except children. In the struggle to conceive a child and save their marriage, they enlist the help of a mutual friend, Barry - with predictably chaotic consequences.
Originally performed at the Orange Tree Theatre, Richmond under the title of Sperm Wars, the play is directed by Timothy Sheader, who spent two years as assistant director with the RSC. Sheader describes the play as "intense and painful, but also genuinely funny".
Arden has found something to relate to in his role as a desperate would-be father, as he and his partner once underwent IVF treatment.
Commenting on the stress that difficulties in conceiving can put on a relationship, he says: "We were first-time lucky, but I know it does open a whole can of worms in one's life." AW
Runs until May 18. Performances: 8pm. Tickets: From £8. Box office: 01722 320333.
