POLICE are hunting two thieves who travelled along Hampshire's country roads in their getaway car at speeds of more than 100mph.
On Tuesday afternoon the men were stopped by a police patrol car in Marlborough Street car park in Andover.
After breaking into the ticket machine, causing £340 worth of damage, they stole the cash contents worth £107.
"One of our patrol cars disturbed the pair and went to challenge them," said Sgt Kevin McCarthy from Andover CID. The men rammed their vehicle into the police car, pushing it out of the way and severely damaging it, and sped off through Andover.
"We made an extensive search of the area and are aware they travelled through Stockbridge," said Sgt McCarthy.
Anyone who saw a silver Sub-aru car being driven recklessly and at speed in the area or who has information on the theft of cash from the ticket machine should phone Andover Police Appeals line on 01256 405131.
