A WHEELCHAIR-bound Botley man can only look enviously through the windows of village pubs, restaurants and shops as people go about their daily business while he is stranded outside.
Adrian Porter, 34, pictured, who has multiple sclerosis, can't get a pint of milk from his local shop, let alone a proper pint from his local, because both have steps that his wheelchair cannot negotiate.
Diagnosed with MS at the age of 26, his body has deteriorated much more since then. He has four carers a day to help him but says he is "very bored" and sits at home watching a mountain of DVDs again and again.
He lives on the ground floor of a specially-adapted flat in Boswell Close owned by Eastleigh Housing Association and has made friends with a number of wheelchair-bound people in the village.
Adrian said: "There are a lot of disabled people around here but they have got used to not going into Botley - they go to somewhere else like Hedge End.
"It's just a nightmare. I can't leave my flat because what is the point of going to Botley when you can't get in anywhere? I can't even go for a pint.
"What's a bit of cement to make a ramp? It wouldn't cost much and it would make a hell of a difference."
Chairman of Botley Parish Council Colin Mercer said: "We have received a letter from Adrian and we are approaching Eastleigh council to get a survey of disabled access in Botley. Then we can suggest improvements to the council."
