POINGDESTRES' Dave Pool swept to victory in the third round of The Nigel Turner/Thompson Group Financial Planning Sunday Series at Wytherington Farm.

His catch of 44lb of small carp gave him £300 in prize money as his peg 67 on the outer circuit on Topmoor was drawn as a golden peg.

Working with pole and maggot and corn over pellets, Pool caught from the start to finish well clear of his field.

Unfortunately, due to work commitments, Pool will not be able to fish the final on Longbridge in September and his place will be taken by Gerry Illingworth, who finished with 37lb 15oz of small carp taken on the pole from peg 56 on the inner circuit for second place.

Christchurch angler Geoff Charman finished third with 34lb 6oz, with Eddie Harrison fourth with 34lb. Others: K Moulton 32lb 8oz, S Pomery 27lb 14oz.

In the individual points championship after three rounds, Christchurch angler Nigel Fitgerald leads the series on a weight advantage with 110 points, the same as Kev Moulton. Geoff Charman is in third spot with 107 points. Others: G Illingworth 105, W Halliday 102, S Hambridge and D Pool 95, G Maton 94, G Naylor 91, P Shepherd 89.

Eastleigh held an inter-club match on Stoneham Lakes which saw the tightest of finishes with just 1oz separating the first two home. Paul Sears (Homestores) took a mixed bag of tench, bream and carp for 20lb 12oz, to shade out Eastleigh's Dave Self with 20lb 11oz.

Others: M Keynes (Christchurch) 18lb 15oz, D Croucher (Hansfords) 16lb 9oz, T Hiscock (Davis Tackle) 14lb 6oz, B Cooper (Hansfords) 11lb 5oz.
