HAMPSHIRE residents are being urged to go green to help protect marine life around the south coast.
A new report has been produced to highlight the dangers of pollutants in the Solent.
Author Lisa Browning, of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, said: "There are some small changes which people can make which will have a big difference on marine wildlife.
"Always use environmentally-friendly detergents as they are less harmful to marine life than standard ones, and only use the minimum to get the job done.
"Dispose of all rubbish carefully, recycling as much as you can and, as far as possible, use non-toxic chemicals, especially in your garden."
She added: "Loss of coastal habitats has had a devastating effect on marine life in the south east.
"Habitats such as mudflats, which are important breeding and feeding grounds for marine life, are being lost due to coastal development.
"Meanwhile, entire marine landscapes and habitats are being damaged by fishing activities and by gravel extraction for the construction industry and beach replenishment."
