Out of Sight, Out of Murder, Lymington Players, Malt Hall Theatre
THE action is set in a mansion where the fictional characters 'come to life' in this unusual thriller/comedy. A writer is helped by his characters to shape the action of his plot.
This feature places limitations on the characterisations, who must all stay within role, and even with this restraint Hazel Gibbs (Boadicea Babcock) in particular brought life and humour to the part.
The actors worked well within a limited space that consisted of an impressive set. Sue Cornwall (Lydia) helped set the scene with a convincing portrayal and she was ably supported by Maurice Gibbons (Cogburn) and Laura Currie (Kay).
The ensemble cast worked well together despite the occasional glitch. Leading man Colin Keir (Peter) is on stage almost throughout and acquits himself well but might have enhanced his performance with more variety of tone and pacing.
The special effects were done well and added to the atmosphere expected in a thriller.
An almost full house on opening night enjoyed this play which is worth going to see.
