LARRY CLAY has refused to throw in the towel on Hamble ASSC's Jewson Wessex League sur-vival fight despite describing Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Brockenhurst as "the worst we've played since I've been manager."
He accused his side of lacking team spirit, but still reckons they can get the win they so desperately require from two tough-looking games at home to Lymington & New Milton tomorrow and Wimborne Town on Saturday.
After holding in-form Brock 0-0 at half-time, the Planemakers survival hopes nose-dived in the second-half as they were undone by goals from Chris Marwood, Guy Dipper and Carlo Tate.
The rock-bottom visitors had their chances too but Clay, who seven weeks ago became Hamble's third manager in a troubled season for the Folland Park club, complained: "We were nothing like the side that played so well against Fareham in midweek.
"We gave the ball away too easily, didn't compete and were niggly with each other.
"We've got two games left to get three points and, if we play like that again, we stand no chance. But I know these lads are good enough and I still think we'll get the win we need."
Whereas humble Hamble have not savoured victory since November 10, buoyant Brock are on a roll of ten wins from their last 12 league games.
They even shone without star midfielder John Bailey, who travelled to Wrexham to sup-port his former Cherries teammates in their vain bid for Nationwide Division 2 survival.
Badgers boss Paul Arnold said: "Team spirit is the secret of our success, but I admit I kicked some backside at half-time. Hamble made us work hard for the points and they're not the worst side this season."
