WINCHESTER pubs are set to open early during the World Cup contest in May and June.
Several are keen to break with tradition following a High Court ruling that allows pubs to show the games in Japan and South Korea, many of which start at 7.30am British time.
O'Neills on the High Street said it wants to meet the demand from football watchers. "We think there will be a lot of interest," said deputy manager Phil Ainsworth.
It is applying for permission to open early and serve alcohol. If that is refused then it still proposes to open early but only serve non-alcoholic drinks.
