ENGLAND under-19s stormed to a sensational victory over Hampshire Seconds at the Rose Bowl when Alex Wagg smashed a huge six to secure victory.

He scored a quick-fire unbeaten 46 as England's stars of tomorrow chased a target of 300 in 75 over on the fourth days on Saturday.

In a tight finish, Wagg was there at the crease to power the ball over the ropes with just three wickets in hand and 17 balls remaining.

Earlier in the day, Hampshire resumed their overnight total of 115-1, with first-innings centurion Giles White, and Lawrence Prittipaul at the crease.

The experienced White once again looked in total control. He punished any loose deliveries, and was backed up by some fluent stroke making from Prittipaul.

The Portsmouth youngster tried just one shot too many, though, as he looked to whip Andy Bresnan through the leg-side, and got a leading edge to cover for 27.

White moved on smoothly, and showed what great touch he is in by completing his second hundred for the match, as Hampshire set their challenging but gettable run chase.

England got off to a good start, with openers Compton and Gale putting on 50 for the first wicket, before White brilliantly caught Gale off the bowling of James Hamblin.

England's top order performed very well though, with Kadir Ali making a stylish 96, Mark Pettini 46, and Sammi Patel 44, as they pushed for victory.

Hampshire kept themselves well in the game, with Irfan Shah and Hamblin bowling well, but Wagg then entered the fray to take the match out of the home side's grasp.
