CLEVER curry lovers raised more than £1,000 for a disabled children's charity during a fun quiz night at a Hampshire Indian restaurant.
More than 130 people from businesses across the Southampton area enjoyed the evening organised by the Southern Daily Echo in aid of the Rose Road Children's Appeal.
Janice Holmes, appeal director, said the event at Poppadom Express in Oxford Street, Southampton, had put the charity well on the way to raising the final £500,000 needed to complete its new school at Aldermoor.
She said: "We've been going since 1996 and the appeal has reached well over £4m now and we've just started building the new school and respite care for the children. It will be finished in a year so we are really excited about that, and tonight you are helping tremendously to raise that little bit of money we have still got to raise by the end of the year."
Teams of four took part in the quiz night, including workers from P&O, Vosper, Posh, Linden Homes, Your Move, Smith and Williamson and Southampton City Council.
The Saints also entered a team, including Matthew Le Tissier, while the winners were Lawtons Communications.
Each team paid £40 to Rose Road, with the restaurant providing a two-course meal for free.
Poppadom Express owner Kal Dhaliwal said: "We are a restaurant that's just opened in Southampton and we wanted to put something back into the community by supporting this charity."
The restaurant also offered to donate ten per cent of takings every Monday night until the end of May.
