AMANDA Proctor, Basingstoke's best hope for glory in the London Marathon, finished distressed in a disappointing time of 3hr 6min on Sunday.
The Hampshire Cross-Country League individual women's champion and recent winner of the Petersfield half-marathon and Bramley 10-mile road race was on schedule for a 2:50 finish at the halfway point on Sunday.
But, after completing 16 miles, her performance tailed away and she needed treatment in the medical tent afterwards. She was then admitted to hospital in Basingstoke for further tests.
Her husband Neil Proctor said: "Although she was in the first 60 or 70 women finishers, she can't remember a thing from 23 miles to the finish.
"She will have a complete rest now."
Of her Basingstoke and Mid-Hants clubmates, Steve Till clocked 3:15, Mark Slaney 3:22 and Simon Ellis 3:53.
Overton Harrier Mark Simcox began to tire after 17 miles but still managed to finish in a personal best time of 3:4. Clubmate Richard Francis clocked 3:12 minutes, his fastest London time for 21 years, David Bright, running the distance for the first time, finished in 3:27, while Karen Burton , another novice at the distance, beat her target of 4:30 with only seconds to spare.
In the mini-marathon, run over the final 2.6 miles of the course, Aaron Harris was selected to represent Hampshire at age 13/14 and finished fourth scorer in a county team of six.
