WHAT'S hoped will be the first of many tea afternoons for the elderly in Andover is taking place this Sunday at the Longmeadows Centre on Cricketer's Way.
The informal gatherings have been organised by Test Valley Community Services who are working together with Age Concern, Testway Housing, social services, St Michael's Church and the Salvation Army to provide the service.
"We're aiming to bring elderly people together who are perhaps lonely or isolated in the community," says project support officer Shirley Baker.
"Initially the Sunday tea afternoons will be run on a monthly basis, but we're hoping the swell of people will help it to develop," added Shirley.
Organisers are expecting up to 50 people to turn up on Sunday, and once established, Shirley is hoping to expand what's on offer.
Andover's MP Sir George Young and Mayor of Test Valley, Jack Taylor, will be at the launch lending their support.
If you'd like to go along between 2pm and 5pm call Shirley on 01264 362600 and if you can spare a few hours once a month to help out, speak to Shirley.
