AN avenue of mature trees, cut down in a development project, is being mourned by an Andover resident.
Peter Wightman said: "I live in Weyhill Road and I find it disgusting that this beautiful avenue of mature trees which has been in place for over 60 years have been cut down and destroyed.
"And what about all the traffic lights we are having to deal with - they have sprung up in Salisbury Road, Weyhill Road and even, the other day, in Millway Road."
The trees have been felled ahead of a major road development, a roundabout, to deal with traffic exiting the new development planned for the John Hanson School site.
The present work is to re-site BT and NTL cables.
A Test Valley Borough Council spokesman pointed out there had been lengthy consultations between county officers responsible for highways and borough officers dealing with development aspects on a suitable scheme for the increased use of Weyhill Road.
The decision was made for a roundabout.
