LUDGERSHALL Sports grabbed a last-minute equaliser to snatach a vital point in a 1-1 draw in a ding-dong battled with Fred Druce to move within two points of leaders Vernham Labels at the top of the ADSL.
Labels have just the one game left to play and that's against Simon Poultney's defending champions at Astor Crescent next Tuesday but Swallow are also still in with a shout with them trailing the leaders by a single point and with two games left to play - against Fred Druce and Ludgershall.
Pete Tunney's Fred Druce bounced back from the previous week's 6-0 drubbing by Swallow with a much more committed display against Ludgershall on Sunday.
Kevin Davies gave Fred Druce a 1-0 lead in the second half but Ludgershall snatched what could be a crucial point with a last-minute equaliser.
A delighted Tunney said: "It was a super all-round team performance and we should have taken all three points."
In the second division, Dave Milward and Chris Green's Leisure Centre ran out 5-0 victors in their penultimate game against bottom-of-the-table and will be hoping to finish the season on a high note when taking on champions Wallop Wanderers on Sunday, but the best they can hope for is third spot behind Pete Morton's Wallop side and Chris Sutton's AC Point-to-Point.
In the third division, early season pacesetters Thruxon joined the gathering on 37 points at the top of the table after twice overcoming a spirited Salto Centre last week.
Knowing that only two victories would propel them to an automatic promotion spot an early Sandy Wells strike settled Thruxton in the first encounter and further efforts from Matt Howard, Mike Gustar and Shaun Budden ensured the three points in a 4-1 win, with Salto reducing the arrears with a late penalty.
On Sunday, a defence orientated Salto frustrated Thruxton as the sides turned around goal-less. But another rare strike from Gustar right at the start of the second half was followed by a goal from leading scorer Wells to take the village side into second place on goal difference.
However, HBT Old Boys will be crowned champions unless then are heavily defeated in their final game.
In the fourth division, Entertainer went top for the first time this season on goal difference after winning their opening round with previous leaders Station Hotel 3-1.
However, both teams still have two games left to play and have to face each other in the return fixture next week. Apologies are also due to Station skipper Mark Bowsher for inadvertently referring to him as Barry in recent reports.
Entertainer have an important cup date before they meet Station with them lining up against Ram Inn from Tidworth at Foxcotte Park next Tuesday (7.30pm) in the final of the Junior Challenge Trophy.
Ludgershall Sports will be hoping to end the dominance of Basingstoke teams in the Presidents Invitation Cup when they take on Kingsclere in the final at Foxcotte Park on Sunday (2.30pm).
Ludgershall are also through to the final of the premier knockout cup in the ADSL with them facing Vernham Labels in the Jimmy Monro Memorial Open Cup at Foxcotte Park on Sunday, 28 April (2.30pm)
