UNDERDOGS Saxons lifted the Basingstoke B Cup after an extra time victory against favourites Headley at the Camrose Ground on Saturday evening.
Three goals in a devastating seven-minute extra-time spell left Headley shaken and beaten.
They had gone in front after six minutes when a hopeful overhead kick from Conroy Saunders, some 25 yards out, caught 'keeper Tim Wye off his line.
James Barter headed against the bar for Saxons in the 11th minute and, as they battled for the equaliser, goalkeeper Richardo Saunders did well to tip a good effort by Terry Moth over the bar. Dean Hill also went close for Saxons.
Saunders had a great chance to increase the Headley lead in the 38th minute but Hill was back to stop a certain goal. In the 39th minute, Moth equalised for Saxons after an error by Nigel Maughan gave him a free run on goal.
Just before the break, Moth hit the post with a good effort. Headley's Stuart Carr had a hot-shot saved by Wye and Saunders sent another chance wide.
Three minutes into the extra period Headley went in front when Saunders broke down the left to beat Wye with a fine cross-shot.
Two minutes later, Saxons substitute Lee Grant forced home the equaliser and, within three minutes, they were in front after Moth controlled a long pass, beat two men and gave the 'keeper no chance.
The Headley defence, now completely shattered, conceded a fourth goal when Grant pushed a ball through for Ben Thane to make the game safe.
The cup and awards were presented by Jim Johnston, Saturday league secretary.
