A MAN with one arm and one leg ended up in court yesterday after he failed to stop his car after a minor crash.
Vernon White, of Virginia Park Road in Gosport, lost the two limbs in a motorcycle accident 16 years ago, Fareham magistrates were told.
But he is still able to drive - and on November 13 last year he was reversing his car out of a car park off Fareham's Osborn Road when he was in collision with another vehicle.
In court yesterday Alex Dabson, prosecuting, said White, 35, did not stop and exchange details with the other party nor did he report the incident to the police.
Instead he drove away, she said.
When later questioned by police it was found that White did not have car insurance at the time of the accident.
In mitigation, solicitor Bill Charlton said White, who is father to three-year-old twins whom he looks after full-time, had meant to report the crash. He said White arranged to meet the other driver at the nearby police station, but she did not turn up.
He also explained that White could not afford insurance at the time as his income support had been stopped.
White pleaded guilty to failing to report an accident and driving with no insurance.
Magistrates took into account his increased need to drive as a result of his disability when they handed him a total of eight penalty points on his licence, fined him £80 and ordered him to pay £35 costs.
