Moneyfields Sports 0 Andover 3
CFL sponsored Andover kept their hat in the JWL championship ring after a much improved performance they left Dover Road with three vital points on Tuesday evening, with two goals from Shaun Dyke and another from Andy Forbes.
Until recently Moneyfields were in contention for league honours themselves but just one victory in their last six games has scuppered their chances.
Moneyfields, without a recognised 'keeper, were forced to use an outfield player in goal and consequently they played deep to protectct him and it was 20 minutes before Kieron Drake in the Andover goal was called into serious action. The Lions spressure finally told after 25 minutes when Shaun Dyke, who has struck a rich-vein of form, side- footed home from Paul Freeman's cross for the all-important opening goal and his second in successive games.
Just after the hour the Lions went further ahead with a goal that will be a strong contender for the freak goal of the season. From Dyke's low cross into the area an off-balanced Forbes stuck out his right foot, the 'keeper appeared to have the ball covered but it struck a divot, spun across the face of the goal and struck the inside of an upright before slowly rolling over the line.
Ten minutes later the Lions wrapped up the points with the best goal of the night. Dave Asker's perseverance won the ball off Moneyfields player-manager Calvin Hore, cut inside before finding Lloyd Webbe and he spotted an unmarked Dyke who had time to pick his spot for his third goal in two games.
In the closing moments a red card reduced Moneyfields to 10 men but by then the damage was done and the visit of Fleet Town to The Portway next Tuesday assuming an even greater importance.
Andover (4-4-2): Drake; Freeman, Barker, Crossley, Bicknell; Kennedy, Walsh, Asker, Dyke; Webber, Forbes. Subs: Odey (for Freeman 77 mins), Damen (for Forbes 79 mins), Whale (not used).
