Winchester will host a conference tomorrow (Saturday, April 13th) on the subject of "Islam: Myths and Realities".

Organised by the Winchester Council for Justice and Peace, the event will take place at the United Church, Jewry Street.

The keynote speaker will be Iqbal Asaria, chairman of the business and finance committee of the Muslim Council of Britain.

The Rt Revd Michael Scott-Joynt, the Bishop of Winchester, will also be attending. The meeting will look at political and religious facts and fictions, and will attempt to examine topical subjects such as terrorism and the Israel / Palestine question in a wider context with workshops on a variety of subjects.

The final plenary session will discuss plans for future dialogue between faith groups and how best the faiths may work together.

There will be a bookstall and the conference will be opened at 2.30pm by Mark Oaten , the Winchester MP.
