THE pack are snapping at the heels of Jewson Wessex League top dogs AFC Totton.
Fleet Town still lead the chase after a 2-1 home win over Christchurch, which puts them three points behind Ian Robinson's pace-setters with two games in hand.
Reigning champions Andover and Lymington & New Milton also made ground, but Gosport Borough fell off the pace with a 2-2 draw at Bemerton.
After completing a league double over Andover on Saturday, Borough twice trailed to goals from Carl Jones and Keith Richardson in a tetchy affair at Western Way.
Neil Scammell and Stuart Hensman undid the damage, but the match ended on a sour note when Harlequins' 16-year-old keeper Luke Havilland went off with a suspected rib injury following a crunching tackle. Defender Brendon Summers deputised for the last 20 minutes.
Borough's slip was welcomed by Fleet boss Steve Beeks, who said: "It's nice to see them drop a couple of points because I felt they were capable of winning all their games."
Having forged ahead on 11 minutes through Ian Mancey, Fleet were pegged back on the stroke of half-time by a Charlie Richards penalty awarded for a trip by Wayne Noad.
Substitute Neil Musgrove's long-range cracker restored the smile to Fleet's faces, but Christchurch keeper Max Frampton denied them a third with a late penalty save from Mancey.
Andover recovered from Saturday's set-back to beat Moneyfields 3-0 at Dover Road through two-goal Shaun Dyke and Andy Forbes.
With keeper Dean Wain still injured, Moneyfields were forced to put reserve midfielder Anthony Davies in goal. His only real howler was Dyke's second goal which went straight through his hands.
Moneyfields had two players red-carded - Danny Boyle for a late foul and James Dunk for arguing with the referee after the final whistle.
Next up for Andover is a heavyweight trip to fifth-placed Lymington & New Milton on Thursday.
The Linnets, stung 2-0 at Totton on Saturday, were right back on song last night, crushing lowly Downton 5-0.
Leigh Phillips bagged a hat-trick - his first goals in nine games - and Gareth Keeping and Matt Town netted singles.
"If we lose to Andover, third's the best we can hope for. But if we win, there's no reason we can't finish second or even push for top spot," concluded Linnets player-manager, Graham Kemp.
Wimborne go sixth after a 0-0 bore draw at Bournemouth and Fareham also shared the points 1-1 at BAT, stretching their unbeaten run to 14 games.
Scott Thornton gave Town the lead amid a tenth-minute goalmouth scramble, but BAT's Danny Boere cancelled it from a corner midway through the second half.
