GAZETTE-sponsored elite squad player Sammie Moreton completed a hat-trick of titles at the 22nd Hale Gardens Open Junior Tournament in New Milton in the Easter holidays.
Moreton, who turned 14 last month, won three of the four events she entered, playing a gruelling four matches in one day during the five-day tournament.
Her first win came in the under-14 singles, where after convincing wins against Alice West, 6-0, 6-1, Rena Hilmi, 6-0, 6-2, and German player Frederike Putthoff, 6-0, 6-2, she came up against fellow Hampshire player Suzi Chapmani in the final.
Moreton was winning the first set 5-3 when Chapman had to retire due to injury, thus securing Moreton's first victory of the tournament.
In the next event, Moreton teamed up with her regular partner, Sian Roberts from Dorset, to defend the under-14 doubles title they won last year.
In the first round, they defeated Nerissa Chesterfield and Elizabeth Mitchell 6-1, 6-0, followed by a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Kristina Quindt and Sina Watermann to place them in the final against Emma Smith and Ellie King. Moreton and Roberts went on to retain their title, winning 6-0, 6-4.
Moreton then teamed up with Matt Ward to compete in the under-18 mixed doubles.
Five pairs played in the round-robin event, where the top two pairs went on to play each other in the final. Moreton and Ward won their box to put them in the final against German pairing Max Raschke and Kristina Quindt, with the Hampshire duo clinching the title in a third set tie-break 6-1, 3-6, 7-1.
In the girls' under-16 singles, Moreton's first match was against fellow Totally Tennis team-mate Emma Retter, whom she defeated 6-3, 6-1. Her next opponent was another Hampshire player, Alice Finlan, and an in-form Moreton won 6-4, 6-2. She later became runner-up in the final, losing against Dorset's Jennifer King 6-4, 6-0.
