HEADLEY take a back from league action tomorrow as they travel to Southampton to face Sporting BTC in a semi-final of the Hampshire Intermediate Cup.

Over Easter Headley kept alive their hopes of the Hampshire division two crown with a maximum six points from their two games.

On Monday, they won 2-1 at Broughton and on Saturday won the local derby with visiting Hadleigh 3-0.

At Broughton, Headley struggled to find their rhythm on a rock-hard surface and were found wanting dealing with the long-ball tactics of the home side.

It was no surprise when the home side took the lead after 10 minutes when a well-struck shot from 30 yards found the top corner, leaving Mark Buttress no chance.

True to form, the visitors came back strongly and equalised soon after following a neat move involving Chris Wye and Mike Balla, who scored.

Almost immediately, Broughton hit back and only a great one-on-one save from Buttress denied them the lead.

Just before half-time Tyrone Aldridge went off on one of his runs through Broughton's defence to fire home.

Headley, in the second half, were content to sit back and soak up everything Broughton could throw at them to run out winners.

On Saturday, Headley were quickly out of the blocks and opened the scoring after two minutes as a near-post flick-on from Nigel Chambers was followed by an overhead kick from Darren Gibson for a spectacular debut goal for the club.

A few minutes later, it became 2-0 as Aldridge produced a dazzling run and finish.

The scoring was finished in the second half by Toby Kimber with another well-taken penalty.

Hadleigh had no better luck on Monday when they went down 1-0 to third-placed Laverstock and tomorrow have no scheduled game.
