LEE BOWYER had the last laugh at St Mary's this afternoon with a late late winner to condemn Saints to defeat.
With the match heading to a goal-less draw it was Bowyer, who had suffered taunts throughout the game from the Saints fans, who turned match winner with a goal two minutes from time.
The England international sprung Southampton's off-side trap on the 18-yard bot latching onto a through ball from Mark Viduka, which he lashed past goalkeeper Paul Jones.
Southampton's defence looked forlornly at the linesman for an off-side flag which was not coming as Leeds scored the first goal by an away side at St Mary's for more than three games.
It was hard luck on Southampton who played well for most of the match, challenging hard in midfield, but without really testing Leeds goalkeeper Nigel Martyn.
Fourth placed Leeds had their chances, and hit the crossbar through Ian Harte in the first-half and then goalkeeper Jones was called upon to save well from the lively Robbie Fowler and midfielder Alan Smith.
