YOUNG and old enjoyed a thoroughly traditional Christmas in Andover when the mayor of Test Valley, Cllr Jack Taylor, held an open air carol service outside the Guildhall.
Children, especially, were fascinated by the age-old performance of the colourful Broughton Mummers who brought their traditional tale of St George and the Dragon into the High Street.
The joy of the birth of Jesus at Christmas was illustrated by a beautifully staged nativity scene from the combined churches in Andover and carol singing was led by the Test Valley (Mitutoyo) Brass Band and Andover Choral Society.
It was very much a family evening, with fun and seriousness intermingling, illustrated by the appearance of deputy mayor, Cllr Tony Gentle who sported most untypical headgear - a silvery bandeau, supporting two glittering stars.
