ELDERLY people in Andover have been warned to be on their guard against high pressure security alarm salesmen.
Sgt Kevin McCarthy issued the warning following incidents in the Basingstoke area during which elderly people have been targeted. The method involves pressurising them to agree to buy an alarm system and then driving them to a bank or building society to get the money.
Sgt McCarthy said there had been no incidents in the Andover area but warned the elderly to be alert in case the salesmen moved in. In general residents should never let anyone into their homes without proper identification and if they are at all concerned they should contact the police immediately.
And in particular, they should contact the police if they believe they are being pressurised into buying an alarm or security system.
