TEENAGE boys have been risking life and limb by playing a game of 'chicken' with passing motorists on a busy street in Andover.
Police have received a number of reports of incidents involving boys, aged around 13 and 14, racing out into the road and trying to touch cars.
The problem is at its worst in Station Approach.
When motorists stop, concerned that they may have injured a child, the youngsters simply run off laughing and joking. But police say such behaviour is anything but a joke.
Andover police spokesman, Pc Ted Reynolds, said: "This is a very stupid act.
"Not only are those involved endangering their own lives but the safety of other road users.
"We are anxious to hear from anyone who might be able to identify those concerned or from any other drivers who may have had similar experiences."
Such behaviour, he added, could lead to a tragedy for which the car driver would blame themselves but any fault would really be with the youngsters who are taking part in such a dangerous activity.
If you have information about these incidents call the Andover police appeals line on 01256 405131 or the confidential Crimestoppers number 0800 555 111.
