SOUTHAMPTON confirmed today that they are hoping to bring in French midfielder, Fabrice Fernandes on loan.
The 21-year-old midfielder held talks with club officials before the Premiership game with Sunderland on Saturday and has since returned to France.
He is currently on loan with Olympique Marseilles, having played for Fulham last season when he scored a memorable equaliser against Manchester United in the FA Cup. The 5ft 9in player made 36 appearances for Jean Tigana at Craven Cottage, scoring three times.
Fernandes also enjoyed a period on loan at Rangers and is currently registered with French club Rennes.
Chairman Rupert Lowe said that they were keen to bring the young player, who has won French under-21 caps. "We are talking to him and his agent, we might or might not bring him in on loan.
"He visited the stadium on Saturday, I would say the deal is possible rather than probable," said Lowe.
It is understood that Fernandes is seeking a £1.1 million move, rather than a loan deal. "You never know what is going to happen with these deals," added Lowe. "There are so many improbables, but we are talking to him and we will see what happens."
