THE final round of the Isac Open Pegged League, at Hayling Island, drew exactly 50 competitors who landed a mixed catch of pout, dogfish, rockling, dragonet, dabs, flounders, pollack and whiting.

Darren Phillips from Fareham, fishing his first Isac match for a couple of years, beached a brace of dogfish and three pouting together weighing 4lb 9oz to win. Runner-up was Mark Vinter with 4lb 7oz, followed by Tony Burton with 2lb 7oz.

Steve Harder from Southampton became the new overall champion with 31 points followed by Wayne Perrett from Eastleigh with 37 points, and Trevor Spencer from Havant with 42 points.Isac's first Pegged Open League fixture of the new season has been set for January 5 at Weston Shore, with fishing from 2pm to 7pm.

Fish were conspicuous by their absence during the final round of the four-a-side Neptune League held along the Milford Shingle bank.

Advance AC came out on top with a 4lb 15oz catch of pout and dogfish. Wessex Falcons were runners-up on the night with 3lb 11oz, followed by Pro Tackle B 2lb 9oz, Wessex Kestrels 2lb 5oz, Boscombe & Southbourne C 2lb 1oz, Christchurch & District 1lb 15oz, Pro Tackle A 1lb 7oz, Bournemouth & District 1lb 3oz, Wessex Hawks 15oz and Boscombe & Southbourne A 14oz.

Wessex Falcons have won both the points and weight sections of the league.

John Williams from Southampton had a clear win during the final round of the Sammy's Midweek League held at Gillkicker, where he beached nine pout and a solitary dab totalling 3lb 12oz.

He got the better of Ian Gay 1lb 9oz, Paul Goodhew 1lb 8oz, Tony Mathen 1lb 5oz and Daniel Mogridge 1lb 5.25oz.

Mogridge, from Fareham, was the overall winner of the league with 137 points, followed by John Brown 135, John Williams 128, Mick Goodger 122 and Ian Golds 121.
