TWO sailors were rescued from the Solent after their yacht capsized in windy conditions.
The Hythe ferry was diverted to help after the stricken vessel got into difficulties at 11.30am yesterday near Hythe Pier.
As the ferry pulled alongside the boat, the Southampton Port Authority patrol arrived and both sailors were pulled from the water.
A rescue vessel from the Solent Safety Rescue Organisation was dispatched from Hamble and towed the upturned boat into moorings at Weston Sailing Club.
Neither of the rescued sailors needed medical attention.
Dave King, of The Promenade, Hythe, witnessed the drama unfold.
He said: "They capsized in blustery conditions and it was coming up to high tide.
"They appeared to get their mast stuck in the mud which meant that they could not turn the vessel over."
