WE'RE no sinners when it comes to Saints. The Daily Echo will be giving you, our loyal army of readers, a free poster marking Southampton Football Club's finest hour - winning the 1976 FA Cup Final.
The poster, using a picture taken by former Echo chief photographer Pat Brookes, shows the scorer of that all-important goal, Bobby Stokes, getting into party mood with his team-mates on the famous Wembley turf after the 1-0 triumph over Manchester United.
To get your hands on this super piece of Saints nostalgia, all you have to do is buy a copy of Saturday's Daily Echo on sale outside the Friends Provident St Mary's Stadium before Saints league clash with north-east giants Sunderland. Alternatively, you can buy a copy of the Daily Echo at our Test Lane, Redbridge, headquarters or one of our branch offices at Hanover Buildings, Southampton; The Marsh, Hythe; West Street, Fareham; and High Street, Eastleigh.
Posters will also be available at our branch offices throughout next week.
Pat Brookes, who now works at The Mayflower Theatre, Southampton, said: "Everything happened so quickly that weekend. The Cup Final on the Saturday, the team parading the trophy around Southampton on the Sunday, and then Mike Channon's testimonial at The Dell on Monday.
"I also got a picture of Bobby Stokes netting that goal. I didn't realise I had it until eight hours later when I got back to our office in Above Bar. I didn't get into bed until 1am on the Sunday, but the Echo sports team were running on adrenaline.
"It could well be another 25 years until Saints win a major trophy. But fans like me will always have the memories of 1976 to keep us going."
