ONE of Britain's most controversial political figures Tony Benn will be heading towards Eastleigh next year.
Labour's longest serving Labour MP is not on vote catching mission. But the politician, famous for his razor sharp questioning in the Commons chamber, is going to put himself in the firing line.
Eastleigh is one of the stopping off points for the Tony Benn roadshow. It promises to be a huge box office success for a politician who has built up a big following from fans of all political persuasions.
Mr Benn will be at The Point, the dance and arts centre in Leigh Road, on Friday February 22, at 7.45pm.
The MP will talk about his life, his diaries and the future. There will also be a question and discussion session.
Mr Benn was first elected in 1950 and has been a member of every Labour Cabinet from 1964 to 1979.
A former party chairman, Mr Benn is now a visiting professor of politics at the London School of Economics. He says he has decided to leave Parliament to devote more time to politics!
His next volume of diaries is due to be published next year and there will be a book signing after his Eastleigh talk.
