ATHERLEY and Banister Park booked another derby date against each other after second-round victories in the Egham Trophy.
Peter Line was the outstanding skip as Atherley polished off Havant 86-72 while Barry Bendall's rink were the heroes for Banister Park who knocked our Arun 96-85.
Playing alongside Anne Pearce, Wendy Line and John Barter, Peter Line led 18-11 after 15 ends before rattling up ten shots over the final six to beat Derek Turner 28-14 at Havant.
Atherley were rock solid on their own carpet, Jean Arnaud, Jean Terrell, Denny Graydon and Colin Thresher overcame Alan Sprake 22-15 despite letting a 19-8 lead shrink over the final six ends while Jenny Loftus, Ann Littlewood, Jim Barrett and his brother, Mick Barrett, defeated Spencer Lloyd 22-19.
Havant had their consolation with the 24-14 home win by Barry Harman against Ella Dibble, Jenny McAusland, Dink Mintrum and Dave Archibald.
With three rinks decided by two shots or less, Bendall's 31-20 triumph over Alan Catterson was Banister's match-winner against Arun. John Joslin (17-16 against Mark Bonnor) and Steve Whitehead (21-20 against Frank Armstrong) inched through for Banister and Danny McEwan was the Eastleigh club's only losing skip, going down just 29-27.
Banister Park meet Atherley in the third round of this national mixed fours Championship on Sunday, January 13, the prize for the winners being a place in the Zone 14 final against either Moonfleet (Weymouth) or Dolphin (Poole).
Banister Park bowed out of the Denny Plate 71-64 for Five Rivers while the Atherley quartet of Larry Collins, Barry Littlewood, Mick Barrett and Thresher crashed out of the London and Southern Counties Single Rink Championship 32-15 at King Alfred (Hove).
Atherley have a quick chance of revenge as they play the Sussex club in the LSC Challenge Shield on Saturday on a two rinks home, two away, basis.
