Entries are being taken for the 15th Stockbridge Cross-Country Fun Event on Sunday, January 13.

Open to runners, joggers, mountain bikers and walkers, the emphasis is on enjoying yourself while raising money in aid of the George Skeates Benevolent Fund.

The course comprises eight miles of grassy and muddy tracks lined with short sections of tarmac, although an alternative three-mile course, mainly on tarmac, is also available.

The start time is 10am and late entries will be accepted on the day (from 9am) at The Town Hall in Stockbridge High Street.

The cost is £7 for adults, £3 for children and £2 minimum for the unemployed/oppressed.

George Skeates, an international sidecar cross passenger, was paralysed following an horrific accident in October, 1985 and spent many months in the spinal injuries unit at Odstock Hospital.

Mike Crossman, a fan and friend whose daughter nursed Skeates, came up with the idea of the fun run to raise money for the injured rider and his family.

It has established itself as an annual event which has donated funds to The INSPIRE Foundation, the Odstock-based charity for spinal injuries and, following Crossman's death from a heart attack in 1994, to the Wessex Cardiac Trust .
