SIX talented children have been presented with prizes by the mayor of Basingstoke, Cllr Rose Wellman, for their winning prose.
The competition, to write a story or poem with a winter theme, was part of the town centre's "Reading, 'Riting and Rumpus" children's literary festival, held in October.
Tess MacDougall, six, won first prize in the five to eight years age category with her imaginative story, she also wins a cash prize for her school, Weeke Primary, near Winchester.
Second prize went to Hayley Woolhouse, eight, from Worting Junior School and third prize was awarded to Imogen Trafford, seven, from Fairfields Primary School.
In the nine to 11 age category, Thomas King, 11, won first prize with his beautifully illustrated poem and gets a cash prize for his school, Worting Junior. Second prize went to Amy Crockwell, 10, from King's Furlong Junior. Third prize was won by Jenny Smith, 11, from Worting Junior School.
The children win a goodie bag, including vouchers, books and teddies, put together by Early Learning Centre, Waterstones, W H Smith and Hammicks. Cash prizes for the schools were donated by The Malls Shopping Centre.
