FIRE safety in Hampshire has been boosted with the appointment of a new deputy chief fire officer.
John Bonney, who came from the Gloucestershire brigade, will also have special responsibility for personnel.
He led the emergency management team in Gloucestershire and was a key figure in the county's response to the foot-and-mouth crisis.
Hampshire chief fire officer Malcolm Eastwood said: "We are delighted to have someone with John's experience and qualities joining us in Hampshire.
"Our position as one of the leading services in this country was reflected in the number and calibre of applicants for this post.
Tim Murrell, previous deputy chief fire officer in Hampshire, retired last year with ill health.
