TALENTED Hampshire youngsters have been honoured at the prestigious Michael Austin Harlick Awards Evening at Winchester Guildhall.

The event was hosted by the Hampshire Schools' Sports Federation, and each youngster was chosen as the "Hampshire Schools' Sports Personality of the Year" in their speciality.

Hamble School's Hannah Littlecott, 13, won the badminton nomination.

Having captured the under-13 national doubles title and being runner up in the singles, she represented England several times. Littlecott has played for Hampshire at every age group from under-13 to the senior team.

For basketball, 19-year-old Anthony Rutter (Peter Symonds College) currently plays for the Solent Stars' under-20 team.

He can play in any of four positions from point guard to forward.

Trampolining's Claire Madigan, 16, a pupil at Taunton's College, has competed on the grade one national circuit for three years - firstly as an under-15 and recently as an under-18.

She helped Mountbatten School gain fourth place in the under-15 national schools' competition last year and will help Taunton's College defend its British colleges title in April.

Netball's choice was Toynbee School's Megan Feltham, 16. Last spring, she played for the England under-17 side which won the European title and has been a Mid-Hants player since 1999.

Batsman Alex Richardson, 15, of King Edward VI School, has captained the Hampshire Schools' cricket team for his age group since he was 12. He skippered the West Region under-15s in the West Indies at Easter and at the Bunbury inter-regional festival in Winchester in July.

This season he played his county cricket with the under-16s and under-17s.

Representing athletics was Peter Symonds College's Katherine Streatfield. The 18-year-old finished fifth in the English Schools' Championships in the triple jump.

She had a Championship best jump at Hampshire level and took the Scottish senior indoor title at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow with a new Scottish indoor record of 11.62m.

She has since gained full senior vests for Scotland and Great Britain. Streatfield has just started a Law degree course at St Katherine's College, Cambridge.
