DIVISION one Wellington Social Club are surpise semi-finalists in the Basingstoke A Cup after putting out last season's finalists Oakley Athletic on Saturday.
Wellington SC 3, Oakley Ath 0
Division One leaders Wellington contained the premier side in a goalless first half and then cruised through with three goals after the break.
They took the lead when a shot by Robbie Russell was parried by 'keeper Jay Hutchings and Jeff Hance pounced on the rebound. Lee Weller ran down the wing and chipped home the second and the third came when 'keeper Paul Jarrett found Mickie Costen with a throw. He made ground and crossed for Paul Stafford, who beat Hutchings with a diving header.
Three Barrels 4, Hook 2 (after extra time)
A closely-fought game at Winklebury went into extra time. Simon Lohrenz moved down the right and hit over a centre for Craig Luckens to score with a scissors kick from the edge of the box in the fifth minute.
Hook needed a further 30 minutes before Richard Sygrove equalised after a good move. Soon after half-time, Darren Gibbs gave Hook the lead with a shot that deflected in off Gavin McGuigan.
In the 70th minute, Ben Vine went on a good run and finished well to even things once again. Extra time saw two fine saves from Addy Hargieves to stop Hook, who also hit the post. Vine hit the post for Barrels, who were later awarded a penalty and Luckens made no mistake from the spot. Barrels ensured a semi-final spot when Jon Flanagan played a one-two with Wayne Barber to score their fourth.
New Inn 4, Ropley 3
Holders New Inn built up a three-goal lead in the opening 35 minutes. Darren Buttle, deputising for the unavailable Paul Clarkson, cut in and looped the ball over 'keeper Bob Archer in the 30th minute. Two minutes later, Andy McCluskey beat the 'keeper with a one on one. A penalty in the 35th minute, after Archer floored Pete Ashcroft, was converted by McCluskey for the third.
In the 38th minute, Ropley broke, beat the offside trap and Ross Turner scored. Five minutes before the break, Ropley were back in the game when Tony Talbot took a ball over the top and netted.
New Inn regained a two-goal advantage in the 60th minute, Ashcroft beating Archer, and this looked to be it until a shaky last few minutes for New Inn saw Talbot score his second.
The fourth semi-final spot will be filled after Hillborne take on Water End on Saturday.
