Fareham bowed out of the FA Cup last night, beaten 4-0 at Dr Martens Premier League side Crawley Town.

Fareham were a goal down at half-time and then a lapse in concentration allowed the Sussex side to add a second midway through the first half.

Fareham decided to go for broke, pushing men up, and Peter Woods and Mark Patey both went close, before Crawley hit the Jewson League side twice on the break.

"It wasn't a true 4-0," said director of football, Duncan Pratt. "We had to go for it at 2-0 down and try to panic Crawley if we could pull a goal back. It didn't happen, but I would rather go down fighting.

"We had six or seven 18-year-olds in this team and I think they have come out of this experience with a lot of self-belief.

"Let's hope they can translate that into league points."
