POLICE today issued a "Be on your guard" warning about a team of thieves targeting elderly people after reports of three distraction burglary attempts in the area.
Two men conned their way into the Eastleigh homes of a 93-year-old woman in Desborough Road and a 71-year-old man in Robin Square late Tuesday afternoon.
In both cases one villain spun a tail that the householders were set to receive cash. As he did so, his partner searched their homes for money.
The elderly woman lost £300 but the conmen fled empty-handed after they were challenged by the elderly man.
In a separate incident, a woman who claimed to be a social worker called on an 83-year-old woman in the Ashdown Road area of Chandler's ford.
The bogus social worker - described as a white female in her 30s with long dark hair and wearing grey clothes - went upstairs and apparently searched a bedroom but left empty-handed.
Police today warned householders not to let unexpected callers into their homes. They have also asked for anyone who saw anything suspicious or had anyone calling unexpectedly at their doors to contact Eastleigh crime desk on 0845 045 4545.
