PLANS to build 10 new homes on part of a sports ground in Ludgershall have been called 'off side' by incensed residents who fought off a similar proposal eight years ago.
Despite warnings in 1993 that they would lose the planning battle the objectors won and are as determined to go the distance this time around.
David Edds, who has lived adjacent to the ground for more than 30 years, said: "The land was given in perpetuity many years ago on condition it continues in its present use - so what gives them the right to change it?
"The land is also designated for recreation by Kennet District Council. A lot of the neighbours are very unhappy about the proposal."
He expects that at least 15 households will object to the application.
Of particular concern is the possibility that trees on an embankment on the edge of the ground will suffer and that access to the site will not be up to standard. But club secretary David Morgan, defended the proposal.
"The reason we want to do this is to secure the of the club," he said.
"We need to expand and change with the times to continue to attract people to the club.
"The land in question is not used for any purpose and it actually costs us money to maintain it."
All money raise from the sale of the land will be spent on the club.
The club has plans for a multi-fitness suite and a new sports pavilion at the rear of the existing building.
