A DINNER lady at Broughton Primary School has received a long service award to celebrate 27 years of 'outstanding service'.
Test Valley mayor Cllr Jack Taylor presented Ruth Musselwhite with the award during a special assembly attended by former headteachers, school governors, former colleagues and friends.
Describing the event as 'a rare occurrence in these times of rapid change', the mayor said: "Ruth's duties are supervising lunchtime, promoting good table manners, tending to minor injuries and helping children to have a happy, safe and friendly playtime.
"What a description of her duties does not indicate are her personal qualities.
"She is reliable, rarely, if ever having a day off, dedicated to the children and generous of spirit.
"Ruth is a rare person who really cares about her work and her children. She has their interests and wellbeing at heart. Her cheerfulness is an inspiration to us all and long may her service continue."
Pupils wrote and performed poetry and read out thank you cards.
Waitress Roisin Sothcott and waiter Mark Gulliver presented Mrs Musselwhite with a bouquet of flowers and a celebration cake. Other gifts included a gold watch and three Swarovski crystal ducks.
Mrs Musselwhite also received gifts from Hampshire County Council as well as a long service certificate.
