UNBEATEN BAT put the heat on Division Three leaders Waterside E after overwhelming Insurance C 10-0.

This puts them one point behind Waterside with a game in hand.

Waterside E saw off Ordnance Survey B 8-2. Dave Goodyer not only gained himself a maximum but, in the last game of the evening, produced his best table tennis this season to beat Doug Taylor and clinch four points for Waterside.

Waterside F could only muster two players in their match against Simmarians A and went down 10-0.

However, Waterside G, with two reserves, George Beazley and Colin French, overcame bottom-of-the-table Pirelli A 10-0, putting them in third place.

The fourth Waterside team in this division only managed two games in their 8-2 defeat at the hands of Four Ts C.

Martin Ceresa and Steve Lumb won three while Pasky Paskaran and Mike Paterson got the two for the losers.

In Division Four, despite a maximum from Alpha F's Dave Wray, who has a 100 per cent average, he could not prevent his team from losing 7-3 to league leaders Waterside J.

Mike Palmer, Tony Huggett and Bob Davies all lost to Wray but won the rest of their games.

Bottom-of-the-table Waterside L took on Pirelli B and lost 3-7. Terry Gentle got three and Meg Stapenhill and Ray Underhill two each for Pirelli. New signing Martin Herbertson, in his first match, won two for Waterside.

Waterside K were beaten 6-4 by a useful Simmarians B side. Man Yau came through with a maximum and Chi Yau with two.

For Waterside, Rob Hansen won two and Gordon Long and Sophie Willsher one each.

Twelve-year-old Wilsher came close to getting a second when she went down 25-23 in the third to Chi.

Top-of-the-table Alpha E were more than a match for the young Southampton West team.

The Alpha team of Terry Reeves, Colin Cottrell and Paul May won all their games to give them a 10-0 vic- tory.

Hospitals took maximum points when they came out 8-2 victors over Wimpey.

Sean Pearce bagged a hat-trick but Hospitals won one game 25-23 in the third and two 21-19 in the decider, so the final score could have been closer.
