A YOUNG robber got more than he bargained for when he pounced on a 15-year-old boy at Totton.
The victim fought back and the would-be thief ran off empty handed.
Police say the boy was walking near the Station Hotel in Station Road South when he was attacked from behind.
A spokesman said: "He was pulled to the ground, punched and kicked by someone who demanded his wallet.
"But the boy fought back and the unsuccessful robber ran off."
The teenager's assailant is described as a white youth in his late teens or early 20s, 5ft 8in, clean-shaven with black, cropped hair. He was wearing blue jeans, a black blouson-style zipped jacket and white trainers.
The attempted robbery took place on Saturday night, but police did not release details until this week. Anyone who saw the incident is asked to ring Detective Constable Paul Williams at Totton CID on 0845 045 4545.
