Peter Price is on course to make it six of the best in England for the second year running.
Price's Southampton Spitfires golf team face a final showdown with Wyke Green from London in the National Seniors Six-man Championship.
They booked their final slot with a two-legged victory over the Shirley Club from Birmingham - the Spitfires ran up such an emphatic first-leg victory at Stoneham that they could even afford to lose the return match in Birmingham.
The Spitfires are a mainly Stoneham club-based team made up of Kevin Digby, Julian Barrowclough, Peter Thompson, Paul Barlow and the two 'outsiders' Jim Hayball from Wellow and Patrick Burke from Southwick Park.
Two other Stoneham clubmen, Howard Moxon and Dave Buckett, have figured in the Spitfires success story, along with the captain Price himself, until a hip problem prevented him playing.
He aims to be back in action after new year surgery and he could be fit for the final itself next spring when Spitfires hope to complete a unique double.
They retained the national four-man crown last month and victory over Wyke Green will give them the "sixes" title for the second year running.
