FLOUNDERS dominated during the Hamworthy RBL pegged evening open at Baiter, which attracted 75 competitors with Neil Saxby scooping the £250 top prize after beaching five flatties totalling 5lb 15oz.

Saxby, a member of Boscombe & Southbourne SFC, used ragworm to tempt his match-winning haul to get the better of John Gilmore with 2lb 11oz (worth £140) and John Extance with 2lb 6.50oz, which was worth £100.

Kevin Painter collected the pool (worth £50) for the heaviest flatfish with a 2lb 0.25oz flounder while the round-fish pool (also worth £50) was won by Brian Fisk with a rockling weighing just 2.50oz.

Apart from the hefty top cash prizes the top three in each of the four sections collected cash prises of £50, £40 & £25.

Fish were conspicuous by their absence during the fifth round of the Wessex Junior Flounder League held at Baiter, where 28 youngsters lined the shoreline, although only three managed to final a sizeable fish.

Seven-year-old Alex Cobb won the event with a solitary fish weighing 1lb 2oz followed by Fay Powell, 14, and Craig Hopkins, both from New Milton and Lymington members with 11oz and 10oz respectively.

The Swanage club stage their Christmas Open shore competition on Sunday with fishing from 2pm to 6pm from their local beach.

Booking in gets under way at 1.30pm from the Swanage clubhouse. Senior tickets have been set at £3 plus pools, while junior tickets will cost just £1.
